Back in 2018, Microsoft hinted towards its interest in developing the Chromium-based Edge browser. And now, the company has officially announced a shift from its existing EdgeHTML browser to the Chromium Engine.
The part of new development initiates with delays after a year. Finally, the Chromium-based Edge browser is out of preview and available for download to all Windows and macOS supported devices.
At first, Microsoft initially will keep the rollout of its latest Edge browser limited in the Windows Release Preview ring to a “subset of Windows Insiders.” Besides, Microsoft has developed a dedicated webpage for available Windows and macOS devices to download the latest version. Users who want to experience the new fresh Chromium-based Edge browser can directly download it from this webpage.
The new Microsoft Edge is optimized for Windows 10 and is now available for all platforms, including iOS and Android as well.
The latest Microsoft Edge version automatically syncs your passwords, favorites, and settings, letting you stay on top. Besides, this time Microsoft is focusing more on user privacy by giving them control over their data and protecting them from online breaches and issues.
The new privacy feature gives users more transparency over what data is being collected while using other unique features such as InPrivate mode and Tracking Prevention. Moreover, the modern Edge browser is now compatible with various extensions allowing users to customize and personalize their browsing experience.
Also, the browser will support HD media on Windows 10 with unique support for streaming in 4k ultra HD, Dolby Audio, and Dolby Vision. Apart from these features, Microsoft will soon be integrating Office 365, which will be making it easier to collect, organize, share, and export web content to Word and Excel.
What to expect?
Micrsoft is suggesting users to expect more from its latest Chromium-based Edge browser. The browser will be more enhanced and advanced, giving more priority to user privacy with world-class performance and high productivity. The browser will offer users a complete fresh new interface and feel, which will add more value while browsing.
Microsoft’s statement in a blog post.
“When you install Microsoft Edge on an up-to-date Windows 10 device, it will replace the previous (legacy) version on your device. In some cases, you may be prompted to install additional updates. Your favorites, passwords, and basic settings will carry over to the new Microsoft Edge automatically. Web apps (including those built on EdgeHTML), and Microsoft Edge preview channels (such as Dev or Canary) will continue to work without interruption,” says Microsoft in a post.
Joe Belfiore, Corporate Vice President, Windows says in another blog post – “Of course, the innovation, testing, and new features don’t stop coming today, and this initial release is only just the beginning.”
The newer version of Microsoft Edge will soon be available automatically on Android and iOS devices. Also, Microsoft is making available automatic updates for Windows 10, including newer builds.
