Amazon Web Services Proclaims Dilating Functionality of their IoT Services

Amazon Web Services (AWS) earlier announced that latterly they are going to enhance their IoT functionalities in most of their platforms, including Alexa Voice Assistant and Greengrass.

Also, AWS is well known for each update they cause in IoT services, which makes it more accessible and easy to use for every user.

Right from the beginning, AWS has improved its updates on each platform, which seems like these improvements are significantly made of users. But, the recent expansion of IoT services is aimed to help companies and smartphone industries who are ready to broaden their fleet in the market.

AWS annouced last month on November 25, signifying a couple of recent expansions that they have made in their IoT services. These enhancements will ultimately drive user experience, but the prime goal is to help companies with their devices.

Most noticeably, the last release from Xiaomi, Redmi Note 8 Pro features built-in Alexa, which is considered to be the smart move in mobile devices. See how.

  • Alexa gets the ability to control several smart devices while using itself as a home automation hub, also called IoT hub
  • Alexa, on the phone, will help manage your smart home, turn on lights, check locks, or even adjust air conditioning temperature using your phone anywhere.

Here is the expansions made by AWS in their IoT services.

Upfronting Alexa to devices with merely 1 MB RAM 

“We now offload the vast majority of all of this to the cloud so that the device can be ultra dumb. The only thing that the device still needs to do is wake word detection. That still needs to be covered on the device.” – Said the AWS IoT VP Dirk Didascalou.

With the statement above, AWS clarifies that now devices only need as little of 1 MB RAM for Alexa Voice Search to operate. Unlike beforehand, Alexa’s assistant requires hundreds of MB RAM and an A-class ARM Cortex CPU chipset till now.

But with the recent expansion, everything turns to the cloud, and on-premise data structuring is eliminated. Even the phones with the Cortex M processor can now handle Alexa’s virtual assistant with the limited accommodation.

Moreover, now the scope for the production of devices at cheaper rates with Alexa functionalities is conceivable, as we have seen in the case of Redmi Note 8 Pro. The smartphone accommodates great features with Alexa built-in and operates on the Mediatek processor at a cheaper price tag.

“It just opens up the what we call the real ambient intelligence and ambient computing space because now you don’t need to identify where’s my hub — you speak to your environment, and your environment can interact with you. I think that’s a massive step towards this ambient intelligence via Alexa.” – Said the same AWS VP.

It means now we can expect single-purpose devices such as light bulbs, electric switches, and other electronic devices with Alexa functionalities. These industries would also take advantage of AWS IoT services to make a move towards the smart intelligence of Alexa.

Further, we can also probably assume that the recent AWS enhancements have increased the scope of their IoT services for manufacturers in various fields. Ultimately, making the AWS IoT services more widespread to use soon.
